Teeth Whitening
A bright, confident smile can make all the difference! At Morgan Heights Dental Centre, we offer a variety of teeth whitening options to suit your lifestyle and goals, including Zoom Whitening from Philips, a leading in-office whitening solution. Let’s explore the available options and why our chairside Zoom Whitening provides the best results.
Types of Teeth Whitening
1. Over-the-Counter Whitening Strips
Whitening strips are a popular choice available at most drugstores. These thin, flexible strips contain a peroxide-based gel and are applied directly to the teeth. However, they come with some drawbacks:
Limited Results: Whitening strips often provide uneven results due to their one-size-fits-all design.
Irritation: The peroxide gel can irritate the gums or cause temporary tooth sensitivity.
Longer Treatment Time: They require consistent use over several weeks to see noticeable results, and even then, the outcome may be underwhelming compared to professional methods.
2. Custom-Made Take-Home Trays
A step up from store-bought solutions, custom-made trays are designed to fit the unique contours of your teeth. At Morgan Heights Dental Centre, we create these trays for at-home use. You fill them with professional-grade whitening gel and wear them for 6–8 hours, typically overnight.
Better Fit: Custom trays ensure that the whitening gel stays in contact with all tooth surfaces, avoiding gum irritation.
Controlled Whitening: The strength of the gel and the precision of the fit make this method more effective than strips, yielding brighter and more consistent results.
Flexibility: This is a convenient option for those who prefer to whiten their teeth in the comfort of their home, at their own pace.
Quick Results: Unlike over-the-counter methods or at-home trays, Zoom Whitening can lighten your teeth by up to 8 shades in a single 2-hour session.
Custom Trays Included: As part of our Zoom Whitening package, we provide custom-made trays that can be used for future touch-ups or applying sensitivity relief gel.
How Zoom Whitening Works
Initial Appointment: We begin by taking impressions of your teeth to create custom trays. These trays will be used for future at-home whitening or for sensitivity relief after the Zoom treatment.
Zoom Whitening Procedure (2-Hour Session):
Protection: Before the whitening gel is applied, we place a special gum barrier (blockout gel) to protect your gums from irritation during the whitening process.
Whitening Process: The whitening treatment consists of four 15-minute cycles. After the protective gum barrier is applied, we coat your teeth with a high-strength whitening gel and activate it using a special light. The gel and light work together in each 15-minute cycle, followed by a brief check, and the process is repeated four times.
Immediate Results: After completing the four cycles, you’ll notice your teeth are visibly brighter—up to 8 shades whiter!
Follow-Up Care: You’ll receive your custom trays for at-home use, which allow for future maintenance whitening or to apply relief gel if you experience any sensitivity.
